Sticky Honey Garlic Pork Riblets: A Sweet, Savory, and Irresistible Homemade Dish
Sticky Honey Garlic Pork Riblets are the kind of dish that instantly attracts attention at the table. They are glossy, tender, flavorful, and coated in a rich sauce that combines sweetness, garlic aroma, mild saltiness, and a deep savory taste. This dish is perfect for family dinners, weekend meals, parties, or even as a special appetizer. The best part is that it does not require complicated ingredients. With simple pantry items and the right cooking method, you can make restaurant-style pork riblets at home.
Pork riblets are smaller pieces of pork ribs, usually cut from the rib section. Because they are smaller than full ribs, they cook faster and absorb flavor very well. When cooked slowly and then coated with honey garlic sauce, they become tender on the inside and sticky on the outside.
Ingredients Needed
To make Sticky Honey Garlic Pork Riblets, you will need the following ingredients:
For the Pork Riblets
- 1 kg pork riblets
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oil
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
- 4 to 5 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes, optional
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
For Garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped spring onions
- Fresh coriander, optional
Step 1: Clean and Prepare the Pork Riblets
Start by washing the pork riblets properly under cold water. After washing, pat them dry with a paper towel. Drying the meat is important because it helps the seasoning stick better and allows the riblets to brown nicely during cooking.
Place the pork riblets in a large bowl. Add salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, soy sauce, and oil. Mix everything well until each piece is evenly coated. Let the riblets marinate for at least 30 minutes. For deeper flavor, you can marinate them for 2 to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
Step 2: Brown the Riblets
Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add a little oil if needed. Once the pan is hot, place the riblets in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan because the meat needs space to brown properly.
Cook the riblets for a few minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown color. This step adds extra flavor and gives the final dish a better texture. The riblets do not need to be fully cooked at this stage. The goal is only to seal the outside and build flavor.
Step 3: Cook the Riblets Until Tender
After browning the riblets, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add about 1/2 cup water to the pan. Cover the pan with a lid and let the riblets cook slowly for 25 to 35 minutes. Stir them occasionally so they do not stick to the bottom.
Slow cooking helps soften the meat and allows the pork to become juicy and tender. If the water dries out too quickly, add a small amount more. The riblets are ready for the next step when the meat feels soft and cooked through.
Step 4: Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
While the riblets are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, mix honey, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar or lemon juice, ketchup, chili flakes, and water. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
The honey gives the sauce its sticky sweetness. Soy sauce adds saltiness and depth. Garlic gives the dish its strong aroma. Vinegar or lemon juice balances the sweetness and prevents the sauce from becoming too heavy. Ketchup adds color and a mild tangy taste.
