4-Ingredient Oven-Baked Evaporated Milk Dessert (Creamy, Caramel-Style Slice)

If you’re looking for a simple dessert that feels like something between flan, custard, and a soft caramel pudding, this 4-ingredient oven-baked evaporated milk dessert is a great choice. It’s rich, creamy, lightly sweet, and surprisingly easy to make—no fancy equipment, no complicated steps.

What makes it special is how a few basic ingredients transform in the oven into a silky, set custard-like dessert with a lightly golden top and smooth texture underneath.

🧾 Ingredients (Only 4 Basics)

  • 1 can (about 400 ml) evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup sugar (adjust depending on how sweet you like it)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

That’s it. No flour, no gelatin, no baking powder.

🍮 Step-by-Step Method

1. Preheat the oven

Set your oven to 180°C (350°F).
This moderate heat is important because the dessert needs gentle baking to stay creamy instead of curdling.

2. Prepare your baking dish

Lightly grease a small baking dish or loaf pan with butter or oil.

You can also line it with parchment paper if you want easier removal later.

3. Mix the eggs and sugar

In a bowl, crack the 3 eggs and add the sugar.

Whisk well until:

  • The mixture becomes slightly pale
  • The sugar is mostly dissolved

This step is important for a smooth texture—undissolved sugar can make the dessert grainy.

4. Add evaporated milk and vanilla

Pour in the evaporated milk and add vanilla extract.

Mix gently until everything is fully combined.
Try not to over-whisk—you don’t want too many bubbles.

5. Pour into the baking dish

Strain the mixture (optional but recommended) to remove any egg bits for a smoother custard.

Then pour it into your prepared dish.

6. Bake in a water bath (important step)

Place your baking dish inside a larger tray.

Fill the outer tray with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of your dish.

This water bath helps the dessert cook evenly and prevents cracking or overcooking.

7. Bake

Bake for about 35–45 minutes at 180°C.

You’ll know it’s ready when:

  • The edges are set
  • The center still slightly jiggles (like jelly)
  • The top is lightly golden
