Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
2. Make the Crust
In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Stir together until the mixture forms a dough-like consistency. Press this dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
3. Prepare the Filling
In another large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, 2 eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
4. Assemble the Bars
Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover the entire surface.
5. Bake the Bars
Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and set, but still slightly gooey in the center. Don’t overbake—the gooey center is what makes these bars irresistible!
6. Cool and Serve
Allow the butter bars to cool completely in the baking dish. Once cooled, slice into squares and enjoy! You can dust the top with a little extra powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
Tips for a Faster Process
- Use room-temperature cream cheese: This ensures the filling is extra smooth and easy to mix.
- Line the baking dish: For easy removal, line the dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides so you can lift the bars out after cooling.
- Chill before cutting: If you have time, chill the bars in the fridge for about 30 minutes before slicing. This helps them set and makes cutting clean squares easier.
Variations to Try
- Add chocolate chips: Sprinkle some mini chocolate chips into the filling for a sweet surprise.
- Top with fruit preserves: Swirl some raspberry or strawberry jam into the filling before baking for a fruity twist.
- Try a spice cake mix: For an autumnal variation, swap the yellow cake mix for a spice cake mix to add warmth and depth of flavor.
ENJOY IT 💛
