Glazed Honey Bun Bars

Glazed Honey Bun Bars are a delightful twist on the classic bakery-style honey bun. They combine a soft, tender cake with a buttery cinnamon-sugar ribbon running through the center and a sweet vanilla glaze that settles over the top. The result is a dessert that is rich enough to feel indulgent but simple enough to prepare without complicated techniques.

These bars are especially delicious when served slightly warm, when the cinnamon layer is fragrant and the glaze is soft and creamy. They also keep well, making them a convenient treat for breakfast, afternoon coffee, potlucks, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Filling

  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

For the Glaze

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Equipment

  • 9 × 13-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Toothpick or cake tester

Step-by-Step Method

1. Prepare the Baking Pan

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9 × 13-inch baking pan thoroughly, paying particular attention to the corners. For easier removal, you can also line the bottom with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang on the sides.

Set the prepared pan aside while you make the batter.

2. Make the Cinnamon Filling

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Stir until the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Add the melted butter and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly and moist. You want the filling to be easy to sprinkle over the batter without becoming overly wet.

Set it aside.
